There are a few good secure emails around (eg. tutanota.com, hushmail.com, Rmail, sendic,) and I've had the privilege of being invited to join protonmail. (you can apply for one too)

These secure email providers are ensuring that your emails cannot be intercepted by anyone. So there are people who need these services but not everyone. These secure layers are to ensure that the communication is not read by anyone else.

To read that people or groups of people try to extort money from them (the service providers) shows how low these mad people will go to get your information. Proton mail is provided for free. Support them if you believe in their good work!
