I haven't really used SMF, but from what I've seen I just prefer the feel of phpBB. Of course if you want proper forum software and you can afford it, go with VB.

I've tried both...and despite giving me a lot of headaches I still prefer SMF, I think there's much to be done with that software ;)

Just go to "ADMIN" > "Configuration" > "Current Theme" > "Modify the index template. (the main template)" and paste the ad code in. Choosing whether you use the Javascript/HTML or PHP version of the code depends on where exactly you would like to put it on the page.

Or you could install the ad mod, which would make it alot easier.

True, though the ad mod works much better in RC3...it does not have all features for SMF 1.0.8...that's why I've chosen to install Tiny Portal ;) ....this way you can add ads without any prob ;)
