When I try to open my Webdisk from the downloaded script file, it says:

Internet Explorer could not open https://adamparkzer.x10hosting.com:2078/ as a web folder. Would you like to see its default view instead?
I click Yes, then it says:

There was a problem connecting to the WebDisk service. Please make sure ports 2078 (SSL) and 2077 are not firewalled.
I don't have any ports being blocked by my firewall, and even then, I added both to my safe list. I tried opening from all different browsers, and was unable to access my Webdisk. All it shows is a list of my files, not a folder-icon interface like it used to when I had an XP machine. This problem started occurring after I switched to Vista.

Thanks for your time, and I hope you can help.

Mine seems to work fine. My firewall didn't complain at all about the outgoing port either. Looking at the code a little, it looks like you need to have the WebClient service up and running, as Internet Explorer is not supposed to be handling the web disc.

Check out your services to see if it is working:
My Computer->(right click) Manage->Services and Applications->Services->WebClient

My Computer->(right click) Manage->Services and Applications->Services->WebClient
I activated the WebClient, but I'm getting the exact same results as I did before I started it. The only new thing it asks for is a certificate when using SSL, and the list of certificates I can choose from is blank.

Additionally, when I try to set up the WebDisk manually, I get this error message: "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another."

Maybe you can do this:

My Network Places->Add a network place->next->next->choose a network place->next->(your address https.....)->yes->yes->(user name and password)->next->finish

this works for me.

This is where I get the message "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another."

Are you doing this somewhere like a university or high school where they block some ports unconditionally?

Nope, I'm trying this at home, and there's no filter on my internet.

weird. I can connect to it completely fine on my computer (though I don't have your password :p)

you're using your cpanel username and password, not your forum, right?

Yep. But either way, I never reach the page where I have to type in my username and password.

Is this something that I could get more help with by submitting a support ticket? It appears as if you're the only one on the forums motivated enough to help me.

The problem appears to be on your end, not on the server end, so I don't think a ticket will yield much.

What is your OS?

Windows Vista. The WebDisk was working fine when I was using Windows XP, and after I switched to Vista, I've had all these problems.

Reading other site's forums, this looks like a vista bug. I haven't found a way around it yet :(
Edit:
Ha! found it!

scroll down to the Novell NetDrive section.

I think you can adapt this to your own use :)
Edit:
Works awesome for me! I might actually keep it :p

A:
RS, the current NetDrive version is 4.0. It is on the NetWare 6 Client CD. To find a download, search for netdrive.exe on the Web. Due to licensing issues, it is not a download from Novell.com. Also, WebDrive 5.01 can be downloaded, but only the Eval is free.

Reader Comments

* The current version seems to be 4.1 now, and a link (or some links) to the exe would be useful
* What about this : http://www.augsburg.edu/stucomp/connect/offcampus_PC.html http://www.augsburg.edu/stucomp/downloads/NetDrive.exe
* NetDrive has a serious bug - it is able to lock up Windows and it's process can't be killed if this happens. As a result - normal shutdown is not possible. NetDrive starts to annoy me more and more..
* Yes, quite strange, but informative.
* NetDrive is one of the best pieces of software I've seen in a long time, and it's extremely useful to me and my clients. A special thanks to Novell for making NetDrive available because it has made my life easier since now I don't need to teach my users who to use FTP. Maybe me and WebDisk just weren't made for each other. I got another error after configuring and connecting: "Can't start NetDrive service WebDriveFSD, This driver has been blocked from loading"

WebDisk, one out of about fifteen (not an exaggeration) programs that weren't working with Vista, contributed in me switching back to XP. I just found giving administrative permission to myself for everything I did really annoying, and using my dad's computer to do particular things was getting time consuming.

garrettroyce - I appreciate all your help in this issue. So far, I think you're the most helpful person on the forums.

WebDisk is working fine now, by the way, after I switched back to XP. If anyone has the same problem I did before, then I have your solution: ditch Vista.
