Just a general question about purchasing a replacement battery for my Dell Inspiron 8600.

There's so many replacement to choose from not to mentioned many stores and varying prices.

What should I look for (specs)? Any recommendation you were satisfied with that replacement brand?

Any tips would be helpful,

- Thanks ...

eBay!

I got a replacement for my latitude c840 from there.

Go on dell's site and look for the part number. Might be worth checking out the service manual - they detail how to disassemble every component which helped me replace the system fans - connector was on the bottom of the system board! Pretty sure it showed all the part numbers too.

Good luck

e-Bay ... -er are these establish stores or e-Bay sellers? Don't want to purchase from a seller. Already heard horror stories. So I only purchase from established stores. I'll look into it.

Thanks.

As I said, I got mine from eBay, and it arrived in 2 days, genuine dell and new. Look for the reputation and selling stats, if it's in the thousands with a 99% positive feedback score I'd say you're pretty safe, and if the battery says 'new' and it turns out it's not, you can open a dispute through eBay and get a refund.

I post this question about laptop batteries in a few forums. Most replies were "You get what you pay for." Those inexpensive laptop batteries are "hit and miss". Mostly misses. My friend purchase a $39.99 battery that last for 3 month, two month pass the warranty,

I ended up purchase locally Ravoc brand at highway robbery price but one year warranty. Salesperson gave me instructions how to charge it the first time around and how to re-charge it there after insuring a good recharge that many customers ignores.

I paid a lot but feel relieve if the battery fails within a year I could bring it back. Maybe it will out last my one-year and two week old HP G71-340US laptop (motherboard went kaput) <rant>.

Why dont you go to a local Battery Specialist Store. I have seen them in every major City. Like the one we have is a store called "Energizer" and they do sell lap-top batteries

There's also a franchise called Batteries Plus that stocks in laptop batteries, or in the least, has them available for shipping.

Definitely Ebay, its a lot cheaper, cheaper, than purchasing from retails or manufacturer. Ebay is always the first place I go when it comes to parts.
