Who Am I?

Born in London, I have been placed at the top of a newspaper's list of the greatest geniuses alive today. (No Googling for answers now!)

1. Stephen Hawking? and if that's wrong, I'll say...
2. Richard Branson

Also:
I invented something pretty important.

Hmmm, you invented a way to bug ichwar. I'd say that makes you pretty important. ;)
So my guess is still that this person is you.

As already stated: Incorrect.

I'll await guesses from other people, who haven't completely lost the plot. :)

zen-r, give us the decade when this important thing was invented.

Within living memory ;)

I've won numerous awards, & one country even awarded me 1 million ($ or £ or Euros or something else - I'm not saying) in recognition of my invention.

within whose living memory? Yours? I'm a lot older than you I'm sure.

Anyways, your clues aren't very helpful. Give us something about the invention.

I'm not as young as my childish behaviour in these forums might lead you to believe!

And no, my clues aren't very helpful - that's deliberate! You're going to have to think a bit harder on this "Who Am I" than the last one if you're going to get it. If you don't know his name, I'll accept What He Did (though we should all be ashamed of ourselves for not knowing his name :happysad: ).

Also:
I invented something pretty important.....When?.....Within living memory ;)

I did it while working for nuclear researchers.

I've won numerous awards, & one country even awarded me 1 million ($ or £ or Euros or something else - I'm not saying) in recognition of my invention.

I've just been made an advisor to the British Government (about time, too!)

Edit : Nice sig by the way, fguy64 - I approve!

OK, I know about important inventions, but I don't follow the newspaper headlines too closely, thus I have no idea if a London newspaper, or some other paper somewhere, thinks this guy is a genius. I'll leave this for someone else.

regards.

If it wasn't for this invention, we wouldn't be here now!

The "nuclear researchers" mentioned above were in the headlines during the past year for their recent work. People were worried that their work might destroy planet Earth!

However, my invention may or may not have anything to do with this.

I'll take a wild guess at Tim Berners-Lee?

Edit: Sorry, I missed this last page when I had that guess. New wild guess: Alan Sugar

That's Sir Tim Berners-Lee to you! ;)

Well done - you are correct. Perhaps I should have only accepted that last guess of Alan Sugar - then I could have said you are WRONG!

Below are some clarifications on my earlier clues ;

Who Am I?

Born in London, I have been placed at the top of a newspaper's list of the greatest geniuses alive today. (No Googling for answers now!) - 2007, The Telegraph, placed him at joint no.1.

Also:
I invented something pretty important.....When?.....Within living memory ;) - 1989, The WORLD WIDE WEB!!!!!

I did it while working for nuclear researchers. - CERN.

I've won numerous awards, & one country even awarded me 1 million ($ or £ or Euros or something else - I'm not saying) in recognition of my invention. - 2004, recipient of Finland's 1st Millennium Technology Prize (1 million Euros).

I've just been made an advisor to the British Government (about time, too!) - Adviser on information delivery.

If it wasn't for this invention, we wouldn't be here now!

The "nuclear researchers" mentioned above were in the headlines during the past year for their recent work. People were worried that their work might destroy planet Earth! - The Large Hadron Collider.

However, my invention may or may not have anything to do with this. - It didn't!

Well done lemon-tree, your turn.

I guess I should have stuck with my initial predictions.
Ok, I had to give up my house earlier this year, having lived there for 8 years
