Due to a glitch in cPanel Paper Lantern, it is impossible for me to switch back to the Basic Panel using the User Interface. The following is a workaround that seems to resolve the problem. I post it here in the hope that it will be helpful to anyone experiencing the same issue.

[Note] These instructions are specifically for Firefox. However, any other browser that has developer tools will also work.

Step 1: Navigate to the Dashboard Page in cPanel Paper Lantern by clicking on the icon in the upper left corner.

Step 2: Right Click on the Switch Theme drop-down menu and select Inspect Element.

This will open the web console on the bottom of the browser. It will display the source code of the website. The select tag that represents the Switch Theme drop down menu will be highlighted in blue. It should look something like this:

Step 3: Click the arrow at the front of the highlighted line of code. This will reveal the two tags that represent the options of the drop-down menu.
Set the value of the second option tag to basic by double clicking on "x10x3" where it says value="x10x3".

Step 4: Select x10x3 in the Switch Theme drop-down menu. With any luck, it should redirect you to cPanel Basic.
